About Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

On August 13, 2002, Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) was established as a not-for-profit private institution with the goal of delivering high-quality education at affordable costs. The university operates under the UTAR Education Foundation and is registered in accordance with Malaysia’s Private Higher Education Institutions Act of 1996. UTAR aims to evolve into a world-class academic institution and has experienced remarkable progress across all aspects of its development. It is acknowledged as one of the fastest-growing private higher education institutions in the United States. Starting with only 411 students at its Petaling Jaya campus, UTAR now has more than 22,000 students. The university maintains campuses in Campbell (Perak), Perak, and Sungai Long, Selangor.

Program Outline

Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) offers a comprehensive and diverse range of academic programmes across various levels of study. Students can begin with one of four foundation programmes, which are designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for a smooth transition into undergraduate studies, with intakes in January, June, and October. The university’s main draw is its extensive selection of over 78 undergraduate degree programmes, spanning fields such as business and finance, engineering and green technology, information and communication technology, arts and social sciences, creative industries and design, medicine and health sciences, and Chinese studies. Notably, all degree programmes are conducted in English, with the exception of the Chinese Studies programmes. For those pursuing advanced studies, UTAR provides 2 postgraduate diploma programmes, 33 master’s degree programmes, and 12 Doctorate (PhD) programmes, including options like the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Engineering, and various research-focused degrees in science and philosophy. This extensive portfolio, covering over 140 academic programmes from foundation to doctoral levels, ensures that students can find a pathway suited to their academic and professional goals.

UTAR University has been conducting graduation ceremonies since 2005, and to date, more than 67,000 students have successfully graduated from the institution. The university is committed to achieving high standards in both teaching and research, and it has made notable strides toward becoming a fully comprehensive university. UTAR offers over 110 academic programmes, ranging from foundational research to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The disciplines covered include accounting, business and economics, actuarial science, mathematics and process management, agriculture and food science, arts, social sciences and education, creative industries and design, engineering and the built environment, information and communication technology, life and physical sciences, as well as medicine and health sciences.
